Sarah Fordyce is an artist based in Australia. Through painting and drawing, she explores interactions between mystery, place, and the everyday. Fordyce is interested in the way darkness disrupts the familiar, opening up the imagination and new ways of seeing. Her oil paintings have rich colour set amongst animated shadows, moving between closely observed figuration and larger abstracted forms. A layered process of photography, reading, drawing, and gouache painting informs the work.
Since graduating from Curtin University with a Bachelor of Fine Art, Fordyce has shown in numerous solo exhibitions around Australia, most recently as part of the Clayton Utz Partnership with 3:33 Art Projects. In 2023 she was selected for Works On Paper 5 with Blue Shop Cottage in London. Fordyce had solo exhibitions with A.K Bellinger Gallery in 2021, 2022, and 2024, and has shown in group exhibitions with A.K Bellinger Gallery, Divisions Gallery, and Rubicon ARI. She has been a finalist in the Len Fox Painting Award and in 2019 was the recipient of the Small Projects Grant.
